Swayman inks an 8-year, $66 million deal with the Bruins
The 25-year-old goalie, previously a restricted free agent, just completed a one-year, $3.475 million contract granted by an independent arbitrator.
“Hey fans, it’s ‘Sway’,” Swayman shared in a video released by the Bruins on X. “I’m thrilled to be back! I truly appreciate all your support during this whole process. We have a lot of exciting new beginnings ahead, and I can’t wait to get started!”
“I’m sure that my agent, management, and I will sort out the details this summer, and I’m really looking forward to it,” Swayman said on May 19. “It’s clear how much I love this organization, this team, and this city. I wouldn’t want it any other way. I couldn’t be happier to be a Bruin.”
“I can’t deny that every day Jeremy is sidelined impacts our team,” Sweeney remarked. “It also affects him, as he needs that preparation. However, we’re still hopeful about finding common ground and finalizing an agreement.”
Last season, Swayman posted a record of 25-10-8, with a 2.53 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage, and three shutouts across 44 regular-season games (43 of which were starts). In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he went 6-6, boasting a 2.15 GAA and a .933 save percentage in 12 games
“We’re getting far enough into camp that it’s becoming unlikely for Jeremy to be ready for the start of the regular season, but today is a new opportunity to keep the conversation going and hopefully close the gap,” Sweeney stated.
- Bruins coach Jim Montgomery added, “I’d echo that. Given where we are in camp and how well it’s gone, along with Korpisalo’s performance, he’s currently set to be our Game 1 starter.”
Boston Bruins finalize an 8-year contract with goalie Jeremy Swayman.
BOSTON : Just days ahead of the Bruins’ season opener, goaltender Jeremy Swayman has secured a new contract with the team.
On Sunday, the Bruins announced that the All-Star goalie has agreed to an 8-year deal valued at $66 million.
This signing follows a challenging preseason for the Bruins, who posted a 2-5 record, raising concerns about their goaltending situation.
Swayman is expected to be the starting goalie for Boston as they face off against the Florida Panthers in the season opener on Tuesday night.
Having had an All-Star season with a record of 25-10-8, Swayman was drafted by the Bruins in 2017 and made his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season.
